Hi Joan!

I'm currently reading one called "The Book Thief" about a little girl in Nazi Germany - it reminds me of Guernsey just by the fact that it's like you sadi: enjoyable, amid the horror of the times. It's one I purchased back in September for my Kindle and it's taken me until about 1/3 through to finally become interested in the story line.

Ohhhh a NO WORK GARDEN?? I'm all over that! I'll have to see if my library has it! Thanks for the tip!

Hi Carrie! I did read the Guernsey book while I was camping over the summer. Great read!! The writing style was really creative, telling the whole story through letter correspondence. Oh, "Water for Elephants"... what a great book. I loved Rosy the elephant and it was heartbreaking to think of animals being treated badly. I keep waiting for that author to come out with another book.

I will definitely look up Ms. Reichl's work - sounds interesting and tasty all at the same time! :)

Well I just gotta try Sunshine burgers. I've tried so many of the others and if they are't just nasty then they can't commit to non GMO ingreds so they are off my list. I've got a few recipes to try to make my own but store bought is just darn easier.

Carrie beat me to it! I'm currently reading "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" and am really enjoying it amid the horror of it, however it took me a chapter or two to get hooked.

As for a fitness read...since I think gardening is
'fit-ening' and I have gobs of gardening books I think I'd have to say Ruth Stout's "No Work Garden Book" is a hoot! She must have been one of those elderly dearies you'd love to live next door to. Out of print now but probably at libraries.

sadly I have no good book advice. not in the fiction dept. anyway. In the 90's I read Daneille Steel stuff, but that was than. lost interest. poo

you know I just got Thrive..and I have (in paper form) Naturally Thin. At first I was a huge fan of it (which spurred my "never diet again" goals... but taking a " bite " of noodles or a "bite" of scooped out bagels.. just didnt' work for me. I like her idea of eat what you want just make it count, but soon after I found raw food detox and Life Force Energy..and I knew, for ME food had to have more of a nutritional and healing purpose.

plus I am a former disordered eater and that mentality just tweaks me deep down somewhere in my crazy food soul.

I am glad you listed your upper body workout. I need some tips for tonight. I am off the treadmill today, getting in my yoga and some Pilates...than some ARMS.

you know what I was thinking when you talked about your sunshine burger...MAKE ONE! brown rice, raw sunflower seeds and carrots, herbs and sea salt.

I have all that in my pantry right now!
sounds like a fun project to me!!!

Plus I go home early today! fun! (maybe I will add cranberries since it's November!)

My most favorite recent read has been "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society." Some other good ones (that you've probably already read) are "Water for Elephants" and another by Ruth Reichl. Ms. Reichl is not a fitness writer, but she is a food writer, and her books leave me feeling so warm inside. I remember reading "Tender at the Bone" and "Comfort Me With Apples" in the Fall season while snuggled in bed. So, those might be good options for this cold season.
