Ice Skating, Anyone?

Hi there Fit peeps!  Happy Tuesday!

I hope that you all had a marvy Monday! How was your first Monday of the year?  Mine started out a little on the sleepy side, so it was a “two cupper” when it came to the caffeinated coffee!  I think the first full five-day week back to work after two LONG holiday weekends in a row always seems to D-R-A-G.  Even when you really like your job – it’s just some sort of weird time-warp phenomenon.

Thanks to those of you who commented that you liked the nutritional yeast post!  Special thanks to Joan again for suggesting that topic, in part because if she hadn’t I may never have realized that my nutritional yeast was missing B-12!  :)

Exercise Highlights:

Sunday I did the “Physique 57″ DVD again.  I do intend to give my two cents on this DVD but I want to give it some time to see if it does make any change to my shape.  While the “Physique 57″ means it’s a 57 minute workout, I think it means “say hello to 57 hidden muscles you’ve obviously not been using much”  :)

Monday I spent 30 minutes swinging a big shovel in an attempt to break up the ice rink that has moved from the street up onto our sidewalk and is quickly headed to our lawn.  (Unfortunately to no avail – the ice was SOLID.)  Notice the lucky neighbors who live on the left side of the street, where there’s actually sunshine.  Then look to the right at OUR yard (we’re in the lot with the stop sign but you can’t see the house), where we still have 6″ of snow! Ahhh the joy of having a north-facing driveway!  This happens multiple times each year when we don’t get a thaw in between snows.  We are at the “low” end of the cul-de-sac so all the run-off comes toward our house, then gets stuck when it hits the cross street.  So we dig a trench to allow the water to ‘flow’, but then the plows come back through and mess up all our hard work.  As I’ve said before, it makes for extra cardio.  I wore my heart rate monitor today and it stayed above 130, so that was pretty good!  Tomorrow is supposed to be 45 degrees so MSP and I are hoping we can both get out there again to get this taken care of before the NEXT deep freeze forecast for Thursday.  Oh summer, won’t you please hurry back?? I miss you!

Luckily I have my wonderful scarf knitted by Cindy from A Sparkle A Day to keep me toasty when the it gets down to THREE below zero on Thursday morning!

Food Highlights:

I bought the Cinnamon Raisin version of Ezekial!  Wahoo … sooooo exciting! Toasted with a little soy-free Earth Balance vegan spread … breakfast heaven is all I’m saying!

I had a phone client session and some blog work to do after I got home from the ‘day job’  so MSP (in his usual SUPER-SWEET fashion) picked me up some Tokyo Joe’s tofu with brown rice and veggies (to which I added a splash of Nama Shoyu [aka 'raw' soy sauce] and a drizzle of Annie’s Goddess dressing:

Thanks MSP!

Rather than torture your eyes with more blurry iPhone photos taken of food at my keyboard, I’ll bullet the rest of the day’s eats:

  • Gingersnap Larabar
  • Chia Seed Pudding
  • Azuki Beans with Squash (from Alicia Silverstone’s The Kind Diet)
  • 4 mini snickers from the candy jar (thanks to the sleepy start to the morning – weak resolve!)

I have finished reading Alicia’s book and the review writing is underway.   I’m hoping to try at least one more recipe from the book before I make my final comments.  So stay tuned – I’m aiming to have that post out this week yet!

I also need to tell you about this in an upcoming post:

And this:

Too many topics, and just NOT enough time in each day!  :)    So I’m just showin’ ya some little TEASERS!

Alrighty friends, have yourselves a TOTALLY TERRIFIC TUESDAY!

– Shari B. =)
