Good morning blog buds!
As seems to be the case lately, Tuesdays are complete madness and as such, no exercise was to be had. So this morning I’m hoping to do some cardio AND some yoga because I’m feeling the need for both. A little calorie burnin’ plus some Gumby-inducing moves.

I tried a new-to me raw (mostly) bar that I wanted to share with you. (As you can tell it was eaten at work, due to the horrible iPhone shot…)

Coconut Acai flavor ingredients: Organic Almond Butter, Organic Agave Nectar, Organic Date Paste, Organic Dried Coconut, Organic Almonds, Organic Raisins, Organic Puffed Amaranth, Organic Acai Dry Powder, Sea Salt
This was sensational! I loved it. I will definitely be trying other flavors of PranaBar. You all know I LOVE my Larabars so don’t think they’ve been knocked out of my daily food plan. From a price point perspective Larabars can’t be beat, because I buy them when they are on sale for $1 at my local grocery store. The Prana bars are more in the $2 range, so it will be an occasional treat. But if you are in the mood for something different, give PranaBar a try.

I pulled up a saved link today to an MSN slide show that I wanted to share with you about food additives to avoid. Some of the items on this list are common sense (like avoiding refined white sugar and excess salt) but learning that potential carcinogens BHA/BHT could be in your breakfast cereal (or your kids’ cereal) may not be so common. Click this link to view: 12 Food Additives to Avoid
Today’s Discussion Question: Do you have any particular additives or foods that you specifically avoid in addition to this list? Please share with us in the comments section. In addition to the additives and artificial sweeteners listed in the article, I try to avoid ALL artificial sweeteners, and made the move to Stevia instead of Splenda for my coffee back in April. I also ended my love affair with diet soda (and ALL sodas now for that matter).
Make it a WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY friends!

Hey Shari – I found them at Drugstore.com – $38.99/24 box (1.62 a bar) – free shipping on $25+. Might save you a little bit of money…..they also have a “super charger” bar (like you need that – LOL!)

Thanks Jen! Goodness, I don’t know if I can be trusted with 24 of those tasty things all at once!
Super-charger bar sounds right up my alley! LOL!

I’ve long avoided any fake sugars, and the list keeps growing as they try to create more…it’s liquid fruit sweetner or USA sourced honey and sometimes fructose (organic only as corn is a big GMO crop) for me and that’s it. I’ve heard of natural organic Xylitol (made from tree cellulose) sweetner but haven’t tried it yet, probably won’t. One of my protein powders has stevia in it, but I can definately taste it and don’t really care for it. Another has fructose.
And since I can never remember which food colorings are bad I try to avoid them all.
Sadly, bacon is the only meat I still use on a rare occassion and it was on this list! I do get the uncured type at TJ’s which I think has no nitrites in it but I’ll definately check again!
As for the rest, I think most of them are not in foods in health food stores so I’m probably safe! Yay! Thanks for sending this list our way…it’s good to keep informed and I’ll read it carefully!

Joan, great idea on just avoiding ALL food coloring! I never remember if it’s like Red 3 or Yellow 4 — too many! I like your plan!

oh, i’ll have to keep my eyes open for that bar..the ingredients look great…and speaking of ingredients. I just try and eat foods I make because I get so creeped out by the un-pronouncable and un-idenyfiable (sp, sorry) things in there. I can’t even enjoy some foods (packaged ones) because I am convinced I am eating toxic sludge!
(but you put a warm pop tart in my face and all my resolve melts away ….some days I am still a child)
I need some cardio too. I never hit the Mas yesterday and I wanted too. I did do my pilates, and some arm exercises though!
Happy Wednesday chica

I’m totally the same as you are w/ your pop-tart. I can’t resist some bad stuff sometimes – like the aforementioned Cadbury Caramel Cream Egg! My seasonal fave!

Chocolate. Many of the brands you find like hershey, snickers, etc have so many ingredients in these candy bars, that I can NOW taste the icky factor in them. I like to stick to pure organic dark chocolate with as little ingredients as possible and you are able to pronouce and know what they mean.

Mmm Chocolate! You’re right about all the gook in our candy! And now I hear that Kraft may try to buy Cadbury…. NOOOOOO! They’ll ruin my beloved caramel cream eggs!
