A Low-Key Christmas

Well hello blog buds,

When I last wrote, I mentioned that I’d be offline for a bit.  That was because we took a vacation!  Including a break from technology:  no iPhone, no internet, no Facebook or Twitter, etc. while we were gone.  It was really nice to fully unplug like that.  Very relaxing and restorative!  What I didn’t take into account was that when I got home I’d be two weeks out from Christmas and in no way prepared!  I hadn’t even started my shopping yet!  We’ve determined that this will be the last time we plan a vacation between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  It just makes a busy time of year feel even busier.  Either that or I’ll know next time to get all of my Christmas to-dos finished beforehand!

I think I was more in the Christmas spirit around Halloween when all of the Christmas decorations started hitting the stores.  I listened to more holiday music the week after Halloween than I did the whole month of December.  I am beginning to wonder if we all end up suffering from “Christmas Fatigue” by the time 12/25 arrives what with how early the ‘season’ seems to start in the retail world and in the media these days.  Maybe I used up all my ‘spirit’ by Black Friday!  I flipped over to the Bah Humbug side in a hurry! I just can’t seem to get the ‘spirit’ going this December!  I’ve spoken to a number of friends and family who said they feel the same this year.  How ’bout you?  Are you really feeling it this holiday season or not so much?

So we decided to take off the pressure somewhat and are just exchanging stocking stuffers for each other this year.  Tomorrow, we have tickets to go see “Django Unchained” (I know, nothing like a Quentin Tarantino movie to feel holiday festive, right? ha ha!) and we’ll eat a meal out.  That’s our Christmas tradition each year:  dinner and a movie.  Last night we drove around town to view all the great light displays that people have put up, which was really nice.

They are forecasting snow here in Denver for tonight so I am sure having a White Christmas will be a treat.  In the meantime, if you are suffering from the holiday HO-HUMS, maybe this will bring some cheer: our pups in their holiday attire – Rascal looking dapper in his sweater and Maddie looking less than thrilled with her Santa hat!  ;)

Have a beautiful week no matter what holiday you celebrate!
