Bringing Back the No Slacker Tracker

Happy New Year’s Eve friends!

I just finished an AWESOME lower body workout and am sipping on a green post-workout smoothie.  We attempted a hike this morning so we got really bundled up and strapped on our Yak Trax. We knew it was windy when we drove to the trailhead, but we literally got out of the car, took three steps, looked at each other and said, “Indoor workout instead??”  Holy hurricane winds, Batman!  You could hardly stand up straight.  So we came home, took the dogs out for Riley’s vet-ordered mini-walk (which really looks more like a drunken sailor wobble for Riley) while we were still bundled up tight and then I did 50 minutes of walking lunges, squats, wall squats, deadlifts, wide/straight leg deadlifts, calf raises, step ups, pulsing lunges, etc.  You get the idea.  I will be feeling it tomorrow!

No sense waiting until tomorrow to work on those 2012 intentions!  I feel a productive day coming on!

I have printed out my January No Slacker Tracker – if you are new to FitFeat, here is a post I wrote on it before.  And here is a link to a free January 2012 printable for you if you want your own.

This will give me a quick visual of when I’m moving my bod (I’ll mark that with one color and plan to also use another color to mark the days I feel I’m being nutritionally supportive of it as well).  All these little head colds are definitely my body’s way of telling me I haven’t been feeding it properly lately.

Really minimizing sugars (outside of fruit) will be on my list.  Good thing these arrived for Christmas ;) and have already been gobbled up:

Huge thanks to my super friend Allison of The Sunday Flog for sending these delicious (and GORGEOUS) cookies.  What a fun treat!  Cory knows that when something is going to arrive in the mail from her, it’ll be delightful so he made trip after trip to the mailbox in anticipation.  (Last year her caramels were amazing and so were the FitFeat cookies!).   My photos don’t do her cookies justice, so go check out her post where she shows all the hard work and love that went into making these.  Allison, we devoured them that night and saved a couple to have with our coffee the next morning – thank you so much for the wonderful gift!

On that note friends, have an amazing celebration to ring in 2012 tonight!  I’m gonna go hit the list of things to get done and then I need to get ready to head out for our evening!

See you *next year*!  :D

Guest Post: Create 2012

Hi FitFeat friends!

Hope you are having a lovely Monday so far!  It’s snowing in my neck of the woods, quite heavily at the moment.  I’m excited that December 21 is this week because it means that the daylight will start heading back in the direction toward LONGER instead of SHORTER.

Recently I attended a Wildly Successful 2012 Career Potluck, hosted by my good friend and colleague Keri O’Connell, about whom you will learn more in a minute.  I met a really dynamic and wonderful group of women that night and we set our intentions for 2012.  We also partook in a fire ceremony, where I wrote down a self-limiting belief that has been holding me back and burned it.  I admit, it was really an amazing thing to do and when that little ‘negative voice’ in my head wants to creep back in, I remind myself that particular belief no longer exists (because it is now ASH at the bottom of that little fire made out of candles) and push it back out of my head.  I’m already finding this to be a helpful tool to progress into the new year.

Now that we are embarking on the final two weeks of 2011, I asked Keri if she wouldn’t mind writing a guest post for us so that you too can benefit from what she has to share.  Keri is a life coach and I’ve had the opportunity to participate as a client in her coaching.  I always come away feeling a renewed sense of motivation, inspiration and mostly CLARITY after a 30 minute session with her.   So, without further ado, here is Keri’s article for the readers of FitFeat – enjoy!

CREATE 2012

If you could accomplish that one meaningful endeavor in 2012 what would it be?  This year instead of making a New Year’s resolution, how about creating an intention and hold on to it with all the passion and excitement you can muster!

As the year comes to a close there seems to be a lot of running around, shopping, preparing and many social engagements. What would it be like to carve out time to slow things down a bit to honor the joys and sorrows of this past year? Taking some inventory on your beliefs about the many facets of your life. What beliefs inspire you to move forward with curiosity and which ones hold you back from what’s truly calling you forth in your life?

To delve deeper into this inquiry, how about taking 10 minutes a day for the next week to spend sometime reflecting about them. At the end of the week ask yourself if you would be willing to let go of one limiting belief. Rituals are a beautiful way to create an experience for change. To ignite your intention, create your own fire ceremony, which can be real or symbolic. You can write down the belief that holds you back from the dream and throw it into the fire. Be the Master of Ceremony; get creative with candles, flowers or music to celebrate in your own way your transformation! Replace the belief with one that allows you to spread your wings and serves you the most. You can write it down utilizing any creative medium you wish and put it in a special place in your home as a daily reminder of this new belief you want to embody to establish the life you want.

Historically, it was thought that the brain was unchangeable. New research in the field of neural science shows that this is no longer the case. Studies show that the brain does not know the difference between thought and reality. With that, would it serve you most to create new neural nets or beliefs that line up with what you want most? The fire ceremony is a way of creating an experience that strengthens the formation of a new neural net in the brain or a new thought pattern. Gandhi is a great example of living in alignment with his purpose. A journalist once asked Gandhi’s wife how he could accomplish so much? His wife said “Simple, Gandhi is congruent in regards to his speech, thought and action.” (p. xvii Dispenza  ~ Evolve your Brain)

Be playful and have fun coming into alignment with your purpose and blessings for a beautiful 2012!

My very heartfelt thanks to Keri for taking time out of her busy schedule, especially around the holidays, to share with us!  I’m excited for 2012 and already have some great intentions set, rather than focusing on ‘resolutions’.

Last Day of the Do Something Daily Challenge!

Happy New Year’s Eve everyone!  Ours in Colorado is a chilly and snowy one.  We finally got our first measurable snow of the year.  News reports are saying the ‘burb where I live got 7.5″ but it must have all blown away because looking out my window I only see about 3″.  Just enough to make it pretty but not so much that you can’t get out and have fun if you want to.

It’s the last day to post movement for the December Do Something Daily Challenge.  Mine has been pretty weak closing out the year, I must admit.  Nothing more than walking and light yoga!  I’ll do the drawing sometime tomorrow and post the winner.  I’m placing your names in alphabetical order and assigning a number to them so that I can do the random number generator.

So far it’s looking like this:

1 Cindy
2 Jen
3 Joan
4 Julie

Is there anyone else that has been playing along but not posting?  If so let me know!

I’m starting some prep in the kitchen this morning for tonight’s dinner – it will be a very lightened up version of a fettucine alfredo (chicken style for the meat eaters that will be here, primavera for the veggie eaters).  Plus a dairy-free caprese salad.  We’ll see how it goes!

There will be plenty of VINO for sure!  I have my usual go-to organic red plus my favorite dessert wine, Moscato d’Asti which is a lightly bubbly.  Can’t wait!  Since I’m not driving anywhere tonight I will be having a few for sure.  So there will be plenty of TIPSY Wii playing going on!  ;)

What are your celebration plans?

Whatever you are doing be safe and have a blast!

Make Your Old Year(end) Resolution Today!

What’s new FitFeat friends?  Happy December 1st!  Hope your Monday after the long holiday weekend is off to a great start!  I think weeks after a long holiday always tend to go very slowly.

I figured what better way to get back into the full swing of things than to start with a TABATA upper body workout!

Weight Training:  Tabata Upper Body

  • 5 Minute WarmUp on TM, followed by arm circles and light upper movements
  • DB Bench Press 4 min
  • Bent DB Row 4 min
  • Side Lateral Raise 4 min
  • Triceps Pushdown 4 min
  • DB Bicep Curl 4 min

This style of workout never fails to do the trick – I end up getting in 80-96 reps of each exercise.  It was a fast and effective and this morning my upper body is feeling the pain love.

Monday Eats

Post-workout was a green smoothie.  And I do mean GREEN.  I used two fists of spinach this time, so it was extra bright.  I forgot to add my rice protein to this one, but I did remember chia seeds.  ;)   Along with 2 stalks of celery, sprouts, a pear, and a clementine.

A piece of Ezekial toast with almond butter served as my mid-morning snack.  When one wakes up at 4:00 AM, “mid-morning” is 8:00 AM.  :)

I packed my lunch and afternoon snack since I was headed in to work.  In the white container is my leftover Tokyo Joe’s brown rice with tofu and steamed veggies.  I ate the Larabar for an afternoon snack (Tropical Fruit Tart, be still my heart!!)  The apple was neglected unfortunately, so he may become smoothie food later today.

Dinner was a colorful salad of spinach, red cabbage, zucchini disks, sun dried tomatoes, and home-roasted seeds (from the acorn squash you see on the side there.)  This was my first acorn squash… WOW!  Love it!  It has a wonderful nutty flavor.  The serving shown here is about 1/4 acorn squash.

Evening snack was a cup of decaf coffee and a Nana’s NO’s cookie bite:

And then I was having trouble keeping my eyes open during “House” which airs here from 7:00 to 8:00.  Again, waking at 4:00 AM means “bedtime” often wants to come at 7:30 PM!

As mentioned above, yep, it’s DECEMBER!  Can you believe it?  I’ve been blogging since August!  Time flies when you are having fun!

Today’s challenge is to make your “Old Year(end) Resolutions“.  If you are someone who starts resolutions on January 1, why not move it up a month to December 1 and get a head-start?  Just think of what you can accomplish in 30 days when you put your mind to it.  If weight loss is your goal, you can easily be 5 pounds down in the next 30 days, rather than 5 pounds UP like many will experience over the holidays.  If you want to quit smoking, DO IT NOW!  Why wait?  (And if you DO smoke, please please quit.  You know how bad it is for you!)

The time is now!  Drop me a comment and let me know what your “Old Year(end) Resolution” will be for the next 30 days!

new year clock

One of my resolutions for the next 30 days is to get some of the exercise instruction posts put out here, as Cindy had suggested back when I asked for reader input.  Cindy, I haven’t forgotten you!  I actually have had one in the works since then, just have had other topics taking over it seems!  :)

Enjoy your Tuesday friends!  See you next time!
