Technology Can Drive One Insane

Happy Sunday friends!  Sorry I missed you yesterday.  It’s been a weird weekend of TECHNOLOGICAL DIFFICULTIES! I feel like I’m back on my RV trip in the Upper Peninsula wilderness, not in the suburbs of Denver, with the way our electronics have been behaving this weekend.

First, unbeknownst to us, our mail server was down most of Thursday, all of Friday and part of Saturday.  So as it turns out Cindy DID send me photos for Flex-It Friday.  We (or I should say MSP) just got it back up and running yesterday and most things bounced instead of storing, so if you did mail me pics please let me know via the comments section.  I will run a “Part TWO” if we have some takers – but you’ll need to resend them to me!  What an inconvenient time for the email to go out!

Next, our internet service has been slow, my IE browser has hung and crashed a couple of times and to top it all off our DVR corrupted all of the files we had stored on it.  Ah well, time in front of the TV is a waste anyway, right?

Which has left plenty of time this weekend for health food store visits.  I think I’ve spent a good 8 hours over the course of the weekend browsing/shopping at Whole Foods, Vitamin Cottage and Sprouts.  I was looking for this Artisana Coconut Butter that Cindy raves about and I wanted to see for myself.  On the third stop today I finally found a small jar to try, so I’m very excited to smear some on Ezekial toast soon!

I also had to pick up cashews and avocados so I can try the hummus recipes given to me this week by Joan and Paula.  Thank you ladies for the great ideas!

And I also found a NEW (to me) Kombucha Tea called High Country that is made right here in Colorado!  Always excited when I find something to add to the “buy local” list!

Trips to health food stores also lead to baked kale and pita pizzas loaded with roasted veggies:

It’s been a delightful weekend, in spite of tech glitches.  Nonetheless, I’m taking the bad technology MOJO as a sign from the Universe that I should be getting other things done I guess, so I’ll leave it at that!  I’ll be back tomorrow for MARATHON MONDAY with this weekend’s recap.  Only 12 weeks out now!

Hope that you are enjoying your weekend! See you back here tomorrow!

Exclamatory Addiction

So I happened to be re-reading yesterday’s post right before I composed this one and realized that the first TEN sentences were punctuated with an exclamation point.    I must have had some seriously HAPPY coffee while writing that one.  (I actually punctuated that last sentence with an exclamation point and backspaced to add a period instead.  Not using exclamation points while writing [or smiley faces for that matter] is like holding down a person’s hands who needs to gesture while speaking.)  Apparently I am super-enthusiastic while writing my blog.  I’ll try (…try…) to tone it down somewhat!  (Aw crumb, I already used one!  This is hard!)  :)

But I digress.

Yesterday’s ‘organized exercise’ was 30 minutes of speed intervals on the treadmill.  I woke up on the PMS cranky side of the bed and stood around in my gym trying to decide what I wanted to do for exercise while MSP was getting down to business with back & biceps.  I needed to do legs, but the smith machine and the ball were in use.  And I wasn’t in the mood for step-ups or lunges.  So cardio is what I went with.  Maybe by FRIDAY I’ll get some official ‘weight training’ in.   By ‘official’ I mean work actually done in my gym with dumbbells and other fun toys made of iron.  And not heavy boxes of marketing materials.  Since my cardio session was pretty short in the morning, I figured I’d come home after work and maybe squeeze in a Tabata session for weights.  But I moved around enough of those heavy boxes again while at the office and got so much movement that I was truly exhausted by the time I left.

No complaints here though – I’d prefer some physical activity to go along with the desk job.   You’ve heard of the “secretary spread” (if you haven’t, hit up Google today) and it’s definitely something I’ve experienced in the past with desk jockey jobs!

NOTE:  I just googled it and there are TWO definitions (who knew? and Oh MY!!).  For the record, I meant this one relating to hips getting wider and NOT the other one which I won’t even link to from my blog.  This is a PG show, folks.  :)

Tuesday’s FitFeat EATS went down like this…

Totally yummy breakfast of a toasted Ezekial flourless sprouted grain english muffin with raw almond butter, raw honey drizzle and cinnamon sprinkles.

I made my “Green Smoothie To Go“  for later.  It was meant to be a mid-morning snack, but actually ended up as lunch.  Check out the little green smoothie junkie EYEING my drink.  He’s  hoping I’ll drop it while taking a one-handed photo.  That’s quite an intent stare!

img 1008

This particular green goodness had 10 oz water, BIG fist o’spinach, 1/2 banana, a mango, 1/2 peeled cucumber, small fist o’sprouts and 2 stalks of celery.  I feel so CLEAN after drinking these!  :)   The green smoothie was then sipped on from about 1:00 to 3:00.  I’d packed a Curry Lentil soup, but didn’t get a chance to eat it.  :(

I did have an unpictured Chocolate Coconut Lärabar as my mid-morning snack.

After-work snack was two Wasa Light Rye crackers, smeared with Tofutti non-dairy ‘cream cheese’ and sprinkled with cumin and Mrs. Dash Tomato Garlic Basil.  That was followed by airpopped popcorn kernels (1/4 measured before popping).

I’ve been craving pita pizzas all week so we had them for dinner.  I even turned down an offer by MSP to pick up something for take-out!  (GASP!!)  That’s how AWESOME these things are!  Can you guess which are mine?  :)

img 1011

You’d be correct if you picked this one!  img 1012

An Ezekial sprouted grain pita topped with olive oil, minced garlic, nutritional yeast, zucchini ribbons, roma tomatoes, kalamata olives, chopped artichoke hearts, marinated mushrooms and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.  Whew - that’s a lot to fit on a tiny little pita!

And an obligatory side salad of spinach and turnip greens.  (I’ll have you know that MSP actually ate some of the turnip greens in his salad!)

Is it Friday yet?  I feel in dire need of a weekend to catch up on things! :)   I’m really looking forward to the long holiday weekend next week!  Wahoo…..

And there I go with the exclamation points again…. :)

Have a TERRIFIC Thursday, friends!

ZPizza, Zupa and … Frosted Turkey!

Hello blog buds!

I hope you didn’t think I stopped taking photos of all my food since my recent posts have focused a bit more on recipes or tips for staying fit during the holidays.  I haven’t stopped exercising either!  ;)   I’ve just been aiming to give you more quality content.  Allow me to do a little rewinding to the weekend and fill you in!

Saturday was time for some SOCIALCIZING!  I met up with one of my girlfriends for a wonderful hour-long power walk on a chilly morning.  It was crisp and refreshing.  Then we hit up Starbucks where not only did I have Zen green tea, but I also saw that they have finally released a DECAF version of their VIA instant coffee.  (It does NOT taste like instant at all!)  So of course I had to buy a few to bring home and sample.  I’m sold!

Sunday left me really wanting to get out and do a long slow run.  I haven’t been running much over 4 or 4.5 miles at a time this summer and fall.  And when Matt from No Meat Athleter reminded me of the genius that is Stu Mittleman’s Slow Burn, I figured it was high time to get out and just do a “comfy run”.  It was great.  I did 6.66 miles (yes, can you believe that’s the number my loop ended on… ??)  My pre-run fuel was a very Thrive-ish Coconut Cream Pie Larabar.  Stu may think that’s too much sugar – we’ll see when I re-read his book.  It’s been so long since I read it that I went ahead and ordered a copy to have for myself this time.  But no matter what he says, I will tell you that the Larabar was PERFECT for my energy levels for the run.  I’ve really found that particular flavor does the trick – thanks to the dates and the coconut oil ingredients.

I knew that I needed to get in a good meal to replenish the bod after the run so I made a Breakfast Quesadilla.  Here it is before I put the “lid” on it:

Zucchini ribbons, a tiny bit of grated raw goat cheddar, spinach, tomato and a scrambled egg.  Served after baking for 10 minutes at 375 with a side of 1/4 sliced avocado:

For lunch, MSP treated me to Zpizza where I ordered the “Berkeley Vegan” on a wheat crust with mushrooms, organic marinara, zucchini, veggie burger crumbles, red/green pepper and tomato slices.  It used to be that they used soy cheese and have now switched to vegan cheese (since most soy cheese still contains casein, a milk derivative.)  I’m not sure what to think about this new cheese – I’m thinking next time I’ll just go without any cheese at all, vegan or otherwise.   Here is their small pizza, from which I ate 2 pieces and brought the rest home.

Here is their “box statement”  :)

That night I was all over the Whole Foods SPICY PUMPKIN SOUP.  And they aren’t lyin’… it’s got kick.  With a whole lotta onion!  Mmmm, so good on a chilly night.  Doesn’t quite beat my Heavenly Ginger Squash Soup, but it’s much more convenient!

img 841

And the only turkey I’ll be eating this holiday week is the one made of frosting on my 99 cent mini-cupcake…  I love the Whole Foods bakery!  SOOO CUTE!

img 842

You know I love my little treats on the weekend.

Monday was a complete and total blur!  Busy busy from the time I got up till the time my head hit the pillow last night.  I still feel now like I could use a nap!  :)   I think instead I need a BIG HUGE GREEN SMOOTHIE as they have been missing from my life since last week.  Poor blender isn’t feeling the love.

Today I have a training client, a haircut, lunch with friends, shop for Thanksgiving food prep items, and if there is any time left I’ll try to get started on my xmas shopping.  Possibly a stop at a local tailor.  If anyone is in the South Denver area and can recommend a good tailor, please drop me a comment!  ;)

Today’s question:  are you feeling stress-free and ready for Thanksgiving (and the subsequent holiday hub-bub) or do you feel like you have a million things left to do and not enough hours in the day to do them?  I am in the latter category, and I’m not even hosting Thanksgiving!!  :)

Have a TERRIFIC Tuesday!
